VITAMIN D3:
This vitamin is essential for the homeostasis of calcium and phosphate, which are in turn needed for the normal mineralization of bones, muscle contraction, nerve conduction, and general cellular function in all cells of the body. Vitamin D3 contributes to the transformation of the protein Osteocalcin into its active form, essential for the incorporation of calcium into the bone matrix.
Furthermore, Vitamin D3 stimulates the synthesis of various calcium transport proteins. In fact, low Vitamin D levels have been observed in patients with osteoporosis, distal radius fracture and hip fracture. It has also anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties and is crucial for the activation of the immune system defenses.
Low Vitamin D levels have been associated with increased susceptibility to infections, diseases and immune-related disorders.
